Sland Studios. An Origin Story.

Development

Ess-Sland? Slang? Slam? iSland Studios? We’ve heard it all (although maybe not, so feel free to send your first interpretation along!); mis-heard or mis-spelled takes on our Web Development company, Sland Studios.

What is Sland?

Sland Studios is a boutique web design and development studio based out of Calgary, Alberta, in friendly Canada, and have been building websites for clients in a range of industries since 2011. Our specialty is understanding our clients needs through discovery sessions and competitive analysis, defining and developing a strategy to identify and achieve their goals, providing ongoing support, and delivering on our commitment.

We design layouts. We optimize user experience. We host and support. We do custom code. We strategize. We work together. We communicate. We like WordPress. We build websites that perform and convert.

Why ‘Sland’?

Sland comes from “Rossland”, a sleepy ski-town in British Columbia. It is the kind of place where you get to know most of the ~3,500 people that live there.

But how did that influence Sland you ask? Even in today’s global, busy, and highly populated world, we believe in treating each client, interaction, and project like meeting someone new moving in next door in our sleepy little town.

Picture if you will; It is a Friday in February, and it has been snowing all day. But instead of a growing anxiety building around how that’ll affect your commute home, you’ve been looking forward to it all day. Your gear awaits you at your locker at Red Mountain, and you know if you duck out of work at 2:30pm, you can get at least 2 ski runs in before catching the last chair. So you pack your things and swing by the boss’ office to let them know you’ll be heading out, only to find a note saying they left for the hill already and that they’ll see you up there.

Work-life-balance is an elusive concept that Rossland seems to have figured out a long time ago. Replace the previous scenario with going mountain biking in the summer, meeting friends to pick up your kids from school, or grabbing a coffee on mainstreet. We started Sland so we wouldn’t have to work 60 hour weeks (though sometimes that happens), but rather to build a team of experts & professionals with processes that you can count on to achieve your web needs.

Our goal? Maintaining small-town relationship values while delivering big-city results for your business with cutting edge technologies, designs, and processes.
