In our blog post SEO Easy Wins, we lightly covered the benefits that reposting an old blog post has for SEO, but now it’s time to dive a little more into this topic and the many benefits it has for your website.
Let’s get to it!
It’s an easy win, but reposting a blog post can be a big time saver when it comes to creating new ideas for posts. It can be as easy as changing the post date to a future one or duplicating a blog post and refreshing the titles.
Refreshing content that has already been written can positively impact your SEO score more than writing a completely new blog post. As we’ve mentioned in our SEO Easy Wins blog post: “The key to success for this isn’t just making minor tweaks and changes, but enough of a rewrite that Google’s algorithm can pick up on the fact that value has been added to an older page.”
Reposting old blog posts gives you a chance to go through what has already been written which means it’s a good idea to double check if any links are broken, refresh out-of-date content, or add more relevant content and keywords.
Everyone takes in information differently and may not necessarily be too keen on reading a blog post. Those that are more visual or auditory learners may benefit from digesting content as a video, for example. You can use the same content, but get creative with how it is outputted differently as a new blog post!
If you have a popular blog post that has lots of engagement, take the time to rework the content so it can be broken up into two (or more) posts. This allows you to expand a little further on each post with more details and insight.
Seems like a no brainer, but if a blog needs more engagement, don’t forget to share it on different platforms like your social media accounts or as newsletters. This is an easy way to pick up traffic.
Because social posts and newsletters can get lost in the digital abyss quickly, sharing a blog post that has already been shared on other platforms will help reach an audience that may have missed it the first time.
If you are consistently putting out blog posts, creating a “roundup” post that features key information on each one (say every month or a specific period of time) will allow visitors to quickly access content at first glance. This is also a great way for users to click through to other/older posts if certain information from the “roundup” post catches their attention.
This all depends on the frequency you are publishing blog posts, but a good rule of thumb would be every 6 to 12 months. Posts that create a lot of engagement may benefit from more frequent reposting.
Overall, reposting old blog posts is a fantastic way to build upon your website’s digital evolution. It gives you a chance to cast a wider audience net, share your valuable knowledge, and have your voice heard. Utilizing this content strategy practice is a testament of your commitment to delivering relevant and timeless information.
