Work smarter not harder.

We all do our best to not fall into the trap of over exerting our efforts and energy. But it can be easy to believe the misconception that good productivity comes from more productivity. With the world literally at our fingertips, we are able to access online tools and apps that can support our work flow, refine processes, and therefore actually boost productivity.

Because of the nature of our business here at Sland, we love to utilize tools that make even the little things a lot easier (we’ll save minutes, even seconds, wherever we can). One of our favourite ways to do that is to lean into the free extensions that Chrome provides. These extensions boost the productivity of all team members; project managers, designers, developers, everyone!

Sland’s Top Chrome Extensions

Here’s 5 of our favourite Chrome extensions we love to use. They support our workflow so we can provide our clients with the best websites.

1. 1Password – Password Manager

Firstly, if you are guilty for writing your passwords on sticky notes or old receipts, then getting 1Password is a must. A secure way to house all your passwords and share them in a safe, reliable way. 1Password will also automatically create very strong passwords to help with login security. This attached extension helps to autofill login credentials in your browser. Yes, Google does provide an auto-fill option, but 1Password is great for companies that need to share single usernames and passwords. Ditch those sticky note passwords, ease your mind, and save some login time.

2. GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture

This extension is great for capturing a long webpage to pass along internally or to a client. There’s no need to take separate screenshots of a page, and only the amount that fits on the screen. With GoFullPage, it’ll scroll for you and capture the whole page – gone are the days of multiple screenshots and trying to actually stitch it together yourself. Talk about a big time saver.

3. Lighthouse

Lighthouse will quickly generate you a report on how well a  webpage is doing. This is a great tool to indicate where a webpage can use improvement and where there are successes. The report will give you scores and metrics in areas such as performance, accessibility, best practices, and SEO. Now there’s no more guessing on where those improvements can be made.

4. WAVE Evaluation Tool

The WAVE Evaluation tool helps to evaluate web accessibility. This extension helps to provide visual feedback indicating exactly where and what on the webpage needs to be improved, specifically for accessibility purposes. The feedback that WAVE provides is aligned with WCAG 2.1 and also helps to educate about accessibility issues. To learn more about ADA compliance for websites, read up on our blog ADA Compliance.

5. Colorzilla

Sometimes we end up on a website and love the choice of colours they’re using. There is no quicker way to grab that hex code than using Colorzilla. This Chrome extension allows you to quickly pick a colour from a webpage and copy the hex code to use for future projects. You can even analyze all the colours on a web page, open up a palette browser, or link off to Colorzilla’s CSS Gradient Generator.
