The Marc Boutin Architectural Collaborative (MBAC) is an architecture and design firm established in 1997 with offices in Calgary, AB and Nelson, BC.
Working at multiple scales in a wide variety of physical and conceptual contexts, and committed to holistic design and collaboration, MBAC applies their comprehesive approach to deliver architectural, urban, and landscape design excellence while creating a density of meaning that emerges through the synthesis of art, architecture, urban design, and landscape design.
2014 – Present
MBAC approached Sland to help modernize their existing website both visually and functionally to coincide with and reflect the restructuring and expansion of this award winning and globally renowned architecture firm.
We were tasked with developing a highly visual and artistic interface to view MBAC’s stunning architectural works while maintaining an accessible and easy-to-navigate website where users could find out more about each project, person, and accolade within the firm. The ability to self-manage their website was imperative as new works and content are regularily produced by the firm and would need to be published internally with ease.
We spent time meeting with key stakeholders to truly understand how MBAC wanted to be represented online with considerations to the digital medium we’d be working with. Our UX/UI process started with a discovery meeting and proceeded to research provided site inspiration consisting of industry peers and appealing design features. The sitemap and wireframe process morphed to act as a storyboard process for all parties to identify each step within the user-flow to ensure the primarily image based portfolio maintain an easy to navigate web interface on all responsive devices from mobile to tablet to desktop computers. Contextual designs allowed for a collaborative approach to defining the interface, and accounted for web best practice and accessibility requirements.
Finally, we applied our UX/UI planning and contextual interface design through our development process to bring it to life. Following accessibility, SEO, and responsive best practices, the client was able to already start to upload their portfolio pieces and studio content with ease.
The newly launched website the-mbac.ca was a reflection of the evolution of the firm, complete with modern design to appropriately display their renown work, reflect their studio growth, and show their ever growing list of accolades.
MBAC is able to upload new works and website content with confidence and ease to continue to evolve and grow their firm’s presence online. Following responsive web and SEO best practice, MBAC’s already notable presence amidst architectural circles around the globe is even more accessible and easy to find and share on all devices world-wide.
